Adding a drafting mechanic to make high-speed tracks more competitive

Matador_34 (JP) Xp: 23574
I have been spending a lot of time in the online career mode lately, especially on high-speed tracks like Overpass and the straight sections of Skyline. Right now, if you fall behind a player who has a slightly better engine upgrade or managed their nitro perfectly at the start, it is incredibly difficult to catch up, even if you take better racing lines.

I think the developers should consider adding a drafting or slipstreaming mechanic to the game. If you are driving directly behind another car, you should get a small speed boost and a slight reduction in wind resistance. This would make overtaking much more strategic and exciting, rather than just relying on who has the highest level tire or engine upgrades.

It would be balanced because the lead car wouldn't be completely helpless, but it would give the trailing car a fighting chance to make a move, especially before the big turns on Switchback or the long bridge on Overpass. Plus, it would add a whole new layer of skill to career mode, as leaders would have to actively block or break the draft. What does everyone else think about this? Would it ruin the current balance or make races more dynamic?

Sounds like someone got left in the dust on the Skyline straight again! But honestly, letting us catch a slipstream on Overpass would finally put those wallet-warrior engine upgrades in their place. I am all for this, if only so I can tail you to the finish line.

So you just want a free tow because my Skyline launch was too fast for you? Honestly though, trying to catch someone on the Overpass straights right now is just a sad simulation of watching taillights fade. A slipstream mechanic would definitely stop those max-engine hoarders from getting an easy win.

Are you sure you just don't want a free pull on the Skyline straight? Staring at my taillights must be getting old! Jokes aside, a slipstream mechanic would actually make those Overpass sprints way more interesting than just watching who spent more credits on their engine upgrade.

While I understand your frustration on long straights, I worry that adding a drafting mechanic would devalue the effort players put into upgrading their engines and perfecting their nitro starts. On tracks like Overpass and Skyline, the leader deserves to keep their advantage if they drove a cleaner line and optimized their build.

Totally agree. Adding slipstreaming would completely change the meta on Skyline's long straights. To make it even better, the devs should link drafting to a slow nitro-charge mechanic. That way, trailing cars get a speed boost and a resource advantage to setup a proper overtake, making those high-speed sections way more tactical instead of just a gear-check.

I lost a race on Overpass yesterday just because the leader had a Tier 3 engine upgrade. I nailed every single corner perfectly, but on that long straight, he just pulled away. Without any slipstream effect, there was physically no way to catch up. A drafting mechanic would have let me stay in the fight and make a move at the final turn. We really need this.

Just yesterday on Skyline, I executed every turn flawlessly, but because the leader had a slightly better engine and pulled ahead on the straight, I had no way to catch up. I was just staring at his taillights, wishing I could get a slipstream boost. Drafting would completely change the dynamic of these high-speed lobbies.

Adding slipstreaming is the perfect solution for those long straights on Skyline and Overpass. Right now, engine upgrades dictate the podium way too much. A drafting mechanic would reward smart positioning and keep the grid tightly packed, making high-speed races way more intense and competitive.

Tell me you messed up your start on Overpass without telling me you messed up your start. If you need to use my slipstream to keep up on the Skyline straights, just say so! Seriously though, a drafting mechanic would make those high-speed finishes absolute chaos. I am so down for this.

If they add a drafting mechanic to Overpass and Skyline, how would you balance it so it doesn't completely nerf players who invested heavily in engine upgrades?

Slipstreaming is the perfect solution for Skyline's massive straights. Right now, whoever gets the launch wins, but a drafting mechanic would reward smart positioning and keep the pack tight. Really hoping the devs see this and implement it soon.
