Is anyone else struggling with nitro builds in career mode when it rains?

Hiro_US5 (FR) Xp: 31290
I have been focusing almost entirely on my nitro and engine upgrades for the past week, trying to blast through the career mode ranks. On sunny days on Skyline, this build absolutely shreds and I can easily pull ahead of the pack right from the start. However, the moment I get put into a lobby with rainy weather on Overpass or Switchback, my car becomes completely undrivable.

Without decent tire upgrades, the extra power from the engine just spins my wheels, and activating nitro in the wet is basically a guaranteed ticket into the nearest guardrail. I find myself having to constantly feather the throttle, which defeats the purpose of having high-tier performance upgrades in the first place.

Are you guys running balanced builds for career mode, or do you have separate cars for different weather conditions? I am seriously considering resetting some of my progress or just grinding lower-tier sunny races to afford the top-end tire upgrades. Any advice on how to survive Overpass in the rain with a speed-focused setup would be highly appreciated. Should I just stop using nitro entirely when the track is wet, or is there a trick to applying it without immediately spinning out?

I respectfully disagree that the nitro build is completely unusable in the wet. While Overpass is tricky in the rain, you can still make it work by adjusting your driving. Try saving your nitro bursts strictly for the straightaways and feathering the throttle out of corners to avoid wheelspin. It takes practice, but you don't necessarily need to sacrifice your engine upgrades for tires.

I did the exact same thing last week on Overpass. I had my car tuned for max nitro boost, but as soon as the rain started, I spun out on the very first turn. I watched the entire lobby drift right past me while I was facing the wrong way. Now I always keep a backup grip set.

Have you tried dropping your nitro power down a tier and investing in wet-weather tires for Overpass, or are you trying to force the raw speed build to work on the wet asphalt?

You are spot on, the traction loss in wet weather ruins pure nitro builds. On Overpass, the moment you hit the boost on wet asphalt, you just spin out. I had to start swapping to rain tires and a high-downforce spoiler before those matches. It lowers your top speed on the straights, but it is the only way to actually control the car through the tight corners on Switchback.

I ran into the exact same issue on Overpass. Triggering nitro on wet asphalt without upgraded tires just leads to immediate wheelspin and spinouts. I had to downgrade my engine slightly just to afford the wet-weather tire compound for those Switchback races. The traction loss in career mode rain is brutal.

I understand your frustration, but I actually disagree that nitro builds are completely unusable in the wet. On Overpass and Switchback, you just need to adjust your timing. If you avoid launching nitro mid-corner and instead feather your throttle until you are straight, that engine power actually gives you a massive exit speed advantage, even on wet asphalt without top-tier tires.

Strapping a rocket booster to a wet bar of soap and wondering why you are sliding off the Switchback cliffs? Classic. You can't nitro your way out of hydroplaning, speed racer. Time to actually buy some tires instead of just huffing that NOS!

Have you tried swapping to a hybrid grip-nitro setup just for the rainy tracks, or are you determined to make this pure engine build work on Switchback?
Loco_28 (NL) Xp: 32570
I had the exact same issue on Switchback. All that extra torque from the nitro upgrades just spins the wheels instantly when the track is wet. You definitely need to keep a backup set of wet-compound tires in your inventory for rainy lobbies, or at least ease off the boost until you are completely straight. Otherwise, you are just sliding into the barriers.

Have you tried equipping wet tires just for those rainy tracks, or does your current build limit force you to stick with the stock ones?
Hunter842 (ID) Xp: 24945
Have you tried dropping just one stage of your nitro upgrade to fit wet compound tires, or does that hurt your straight-line speed too much on Overpass?

Your strategy of maximizing engine and nitro for Skyline is brilliant and shows a real understanding of the game's speed mechanics. Pushing that high-speed build to its limits is seriously impressive, even if the wet asphalt on Switchback and Overpass is a beast to handle without tire upgrades. Keep tuning, you have got a killer setup there!

Your high-nitro build on Skyline sounds absolutely legendary, those straightaways must be an absolute blast. It takes real skill to control that much raw power. You are spot on about Overpass and Switchback in the wet though—the game's traction physics really force us to adapt. Still, your sunny-day tuning is top-tier work!
