Adding a single-player practice mode to test setups before career races

Drift_8636 (NZ) Xp: 14941
Hey everyone, I have been playing the career mode a lot lately and trying to optimize my builds for tracks like Skyline and Switchback. One thing that really frustrates me is not being able to test how new engine or tire upgrades feel under specific weather conditions before jumping into a ranked career race. Right now, if I buy a new tier of tires and want to see how they handle the snow on Switchback, I have to risk my actual career points and ranking just to test it out.

I would love to see a simple practice mode or test track option added to the main menu. It would let us select any track, like Overpass or Skyline, set the weather to sunny, rain, snow, or fog, and just drive solo for a few laps. This would be incredibly helpful for testing whether a high-nitro build actually works in the fog on Overpass, or if the extra engine power is too much to handle on the wet Switchback hairpins.

It would not need to reward any cash or experience points, just a pure sandbox mode for tuning and getting used to the physics. What do you guys think? Would this make planning your upgrade path a lot easier?

I ruined my championship run last night because of this. I bought the new rally tires for Switchback, thinking they'd grip the snow, but without a practice mode I had no idea how tail-heavy my new engine upgrade made the car. I spun out on turn one and flushed 50k credits down the drain. We need a test track badly.

What, you don't enjoy using actual ranked career races as your personal crash-test-dummy runs? Flying off the Switchback cliffs in the snow because your new tires feel like soap is basically a rite of passage! But yeah, my virtual repair budget desperately needs a practice mode too.

What, you don't enjoy the pure adrenaline of throwing a brand new engine onto a snowy Switchback completely blind? Who needs a practice mode when you can just use the guardrails as your brakes? Seriously though, my career budget is crying from all the expensive tires that turned my build into a bobsled. We definitely need a test track.

I understand where you are coming from, but I actually enjoy the challenge of not knowing exactly how a new setup will handle. Having to adapt to the snow on Switchback during the actual career race adds a layer of realism and stakes that a practice mode would ruin. Part of the fun is learning to adjust your driving on the fly when a new upgrade doesn't behave as expected.

Would you want this practice mode to allow on-the-fly tuning and part swapping while on the track, or would we still have to load back into the main garage every time we want to test a different tire compound on the Switchback snow?

I totally agree. I wasted so much career cash buying wet tires for Switchback only to realize they didn't suit my driving style in the snow. A sandbox test track where we could hot-lap with custom weather settings and swap parts instantly would be a massive quality of life upgrade for tuning.

I understand where you are coming from, but I feel that part of the excitement in career mode is the unpredictable nature of the races. Having to make a gut-decision on your tire compounds or engine tune for Switchback's snow, without knowing exactly how it will handle, adds a realistic layer of risk that makes victory feel much more rewarding.

Do you think this practice mode should let us dynamically change the weather mid-run, or would you prefer a standard lobby setup where we select the snow conditions on Switchback before heading out?

Would you want this practice mode to let us test any part in the shop for free before buying them, or should it only let us use the upgrades we already own in our career garage?

I tanked my safety rating last weekend because of this. I bought the Stage 3 snow tires for Switchback, went straight into a ranked career race, and binned it on the first corner because the grip was totally unexpected. Having a zero-stakes test track to feel out the handling first would save so much frustration.

Wait, you mean flying blindly into a snowy Switchback hairpin with untested tires isn't your idea of a fun Sunday? Where is your sense of adventure? But seriously, my virtual mechanic is crying over my repair bills, so I totally support this.
